WordPress Plugin: Broken Links Remover

  • Verwende seit einiger Zeit Broken Link Checker.

  • @stefan,

i am the author of Platinum Seo plugin and broken links remover plugin.i have released 1.1 to sanitize the urls.

Regarding webmasters having more control on certain http staus codes like 404, guess it is good to have that ability if you are a technically inclined webmaster but unfortunately not all wordpress blogger are technically inclined. Also the blog to which you have linked is throwing 404 and most often you might not have control over that blog.

But I am adding more features in future releases that will give users(webmasters) more control. They can then control

    1) whether to log and remove(actually the plugin hides) broken links or to just log them without hiding them.
    2) whether to remain passive for certain user(webmaster0 determined http status codes alone. For eg., in your case you can mention 404 and those will not be removed (hidden).

  • @Dieter, Xenu is a good utility, no doubt. But it will only report to you broken links but will not automatically hide them for you.So the search engines will still see your broken links and that is bad. This is where this plugin helps.

Moreover it is not always good allow external bots like xenu to verify links on your blog.Xenu may be an innocent and good bot but there are several bad bots on the net.

Thanks To Robert for this review.Would request all german readers here to use and suggest any good features that you could think for this plugin..

    cheers.

  • @Rajesh: I don’t like broken links to be removed automatically when they ain’t broken. Will the links be intact again after deactivating your Plugin or are they unlinked afterwards?

  • Stefan, The links will be intact. I have released version 1.1 to iron out certain inconsistencies. the plugin will also see a few more releases for the features that I had explained in my earlier comments.

„Will the links be intact again after deactivating your Plugin or are they unlinked afterwards?“

One cannot modify the content saved in your database via a plugin.Your links are stored in your database. Did you check the links that you claim as having been removed in your post (via the wordpress administration). If you had checked it, you will notice that it is still there.

All that a plugin can do is only to modify the display of your post before it is served to a user (human or search engines). But no plugin can alter your base content as saved in your database.

Broken links remover plugin only hides the links for your users. But the correction can be done only by you. This is what the plugin has been designed to do and that is what has been explained in the plugin page.

So if you deactivate, then everything will become the same as you used it before. You don’t have to worry.
