According to a study released Tuesday by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the number of Japanese writing personal „weblogs,“ popularly known as blogs, was estimated at 3.35 million at the end of March. Of those, just under 1 million update their blogs more than once a month, amounting to about 2.1 percent of the total number of Japanese who use the Internet.
However, the Ministry estimates that already some 16.5 million Japanese read blogs once a month, roughly 20 percent of the Internet population… The Ministry also forecasts that the Japanese weblog market – constituting blog advertising, software sales, publications, and electronic commerce – will grow from a meager 3.4 billion yen (about $31.7 million) in March of this year, to 137.7 billion yen ($1.28 billion) in March 2007 (Quelle: Japan Media Review)
