MS Live Mesh

The much-talked about technology is a service platform that allows users to manage and access different devices, share and synchronize files and stay in touch with others from any computer by using the Web as a hub. Live Mesh users can, for example, access photos on their mobile phone from their computer and make them available to friends by placing them in a shared folder. In order for devices to talk to each other, you need to install Live Mesh software

Live Mesh is Microsoft“€™s late entry into a rapidly growing market described as cloud computing. The term refers to the movement of software applications and services from PCs to centralized data centers, where they are made available via the Internet. Companies like Amazon.com, Google, Salesforce and dozens of others are building computing centers that will effectively outsource data processing and make it a commodity that companies purchase as they would electricity.

Microsoft refers to its strategy as „€œsoftware plus services.“€? However, the new vision is built on Web-based software that will help deliver entertainment as well as business software to devices like Microsoft“€™s Xbox game console, to Zune music player, to cellphones running Windows Mobile software, even to Apple“€™s Mac computers and other consumer devices in the home.

* Services Are the Core of the Platform „€“ the Live Mesh platform exposes a number of core services including some Live Services that can all be accessed using the Live Mesh API; these include Storage (online and offline), Membership, Sync, Peer-to-Peer Communication and Newsfeed.
* Same API on Clients and in the Cloud „€“ the programming model is the same for the cloud and all connected devices, which means a Live Mesh application works exactly the same regardless of whether it“€™s running in the cloud, in a browser, on a desktop, or on a mobile device.
* Open, Extendable Data Model „€“ a basic data model is provided for the most common tasks needed for a Live Mesh application; developers can also customize and extend the data model in any fashion that is needed for a specific application.
* Flexible Application Model „€“ developers can choose what application developer model best fits their needs.
